Forgive yourself

There is a certain kind of regret that whispers at night.

It sounds like, “If I had known then what I know now…
It feels like replaying old conversations.
Old decisions.
Old relationships.
Old risks you didn’t take.

And sometimes, the heaviest thing to carry is not failure. It is hindsight.

But here is the truth you need to sit with today: you cannot punish your past self for not having the wisdom your present self earned through experience. You were learning. You were becoming. You were doing the best you could with the awareness you had.

Growth is expensive. And time is the school fees.

When you were younger, you trusted too quickly. You loved too deeply. You ignored red flags. You chose comfort over courage. You stayed too long. Or you left too early. And now that you see things clearly, it is tempting to judge the version of you who did not.

But clarity is not free. It comes after mistakes. After heartbreak. After embarrassment. After loss. After silence. After trying again. After getting it wrong.

Time had to teach you.

And time does not teach in lectures. It teaches in consequences. It teaches in discomfort. It teaches in lived reality. That is why the lessons stick.

Think about it. The confidence you carry today did not exist five years ago. The boundaries you now enforce did not exist back then. The emotional intelligence you now speak with was once confusion. The standards you now hold were once negotiable.

You did not “fail.” You evolved.

Forgiving yourself is not pretending you made perfect choices. It is accepting that your understanding was incomplete. It is recognizing that you were operating with limited information. It is acknowledging that wisdom is built, not downloaded.

There is a version of you from three years ago who would be proud of who you are today.

And there is a version of you three years from now who will understand things you still do not.

That is the beauty of growth. It is continuous. It is layered. It is humbling.

Stop dragging your old self into a courtroom every time you remember a mistake. That version of you was not foolish. They were inexperienced. They were hopeful. They were figuring life out without a manual.

You cannot expect Chapter 2 of your life to have the awareness of Chapter 10.

Time rearranges perspective. What once felt like the end now looks like protection. What once felt like rejection now looks like redirection. What once felt like humiliation now looks like preparation.

The older you get, the more you realize that some lessons cannot be taught by advice. They must be lived.

So, forgive yourself for not knowing earlier what only time could teach you.

Forgive yourself for loving someone you later outgrew.
Forgive yourself for the business idea that failed.
Forgive yourself for staying silent when you should have spoken.
Forgive yourself for speaking when you should have listened.
Forgive yourself for not seeing the signs.

You were learning.

And learning is not always graceful.

If anything, be grateful. Because you did not stay the same. You reflected. You adjusted. You matured. You grew stronger. You grew wiser. That means you are paying attention to your life. That means you are evolving.

The goal is not to have a perfect past. The goal is to have a conscious present.

So instead of asking, “Why didn’t I know better?” ask, “What has this taught me?

That question changes everything.

At OrangeCityz, we believe growth is not about pretending you never stumbled. It is about honoring the journey that shaped you. Every lesson. Every mistake. Every realization. They built the person reading this right now.

And that person deserves grace.

Time taught you.
Now let wisdom comfort you.

It gets better, right?
Wishing you well…
