Against All Odds: The Unbreakable Spirit of Funke Akindele
They Call Us Dreamers, But We’re the Ones Losing Sleep
What If We Find an Excuse to Talk Again?

They Call Us Dreamers, But We’re the Ones Losing Sleep

They say we’re just dreamers, but they don’t see the sleepless nights, the quiet hustle, the fire that won’t let us quit. This piece is for the ones building something out of nothing — the ones who stay awake because their dream won’t let them rest.

They call us dreamers, yet we’re the ones who get no sleep

It’s funny, isn’t it?
They say we’re “just dreamers.
As if we live in the clouds.
As if our heads are full of fairytales and delusions.

But what they don’t see…
Are the 3AM thoughts.
The sleepless nights.
The anxiety that comes with trying to create something bigger than yourself.
The pressure.
The doubts.
The fire in your chest that won’t let you rest — because you know there’s more

Dreamers don’t sleep.
Not because we can’t.
But because we’ve seen something in our minds that the world hasn’t seen yet — and we can’t stop until it exists.

What They Don’t Understand…

They don’t understand the obsession.
They don’t understand working 9–5 and then coming alive at 11PM.

They don’t understand why you’d invest your time, money, and energy into something with no guaranteed reward.
But you do.

Because something deep inside you knows: This dream isn’t random. It was planted in you for a reason.

You are not Alone

You’re not weird for being tired yet driven.
You’re not crazy for sacrificing sleep to build that brand, launch that blog, finish that course, or write that proposal.

Look around. The people who changed the world?

They were “dreamers” too.

  • Walt Disney was fired from a newspaper job for “lacking creativity.” Now he’s a global legend.
  • Fela Kuti challenged systems through music. He was misunderstood — until he was celebrated.
  • Aliko Dangote dreamt of building an empire. He started small… and built Africa’s largest industrial conglomerate.
  • You — yes, you — have something inside you that the world needs.

So let them laugh.
Let them doubt.
Let them call you a dreamer.

Just smile… and get back to work.
Because you know the truth: You’re not just dreaming.
You’re building.

Let’s Talk

Are you chasing a dream that’s keeping you up at night?
What are you building — even when no one else sees it?

Drop it in the comments. Let’s celebrate the dreamers who don’t sleep.
