Growth: If You’ve Been Feeling Like You’re Not Improving Fast Enough, Read This

Growth looks simple from the outside. People talk about it as if it’s just about routines, journaling, discipline, or waking up earlier. But the real kind of growth, the one that actually changes you, is quiet, uncomfortable, and sometimes painfully honest. It’s the kind of growth that makes you see yourself in ways you weren’t always ready for.

It always begins with self-awareness—that slow, steady noticing of who you are becoming. Maybe you catch yourself reacting too quickly. Maybe you realise you avoid certain conversations. Maybe you start seeing the habits you’ve been pretending don’t exist. Self-awareness isn’t glamorous. It’s you sitting with your truth and saying, “This is where I am right now… and I can do better.” That alone is a form of growth.

But here’s something we often forget: no matter how self-aware you are, you will never see everything. You can’t. Some parts of you only show up when life presses the right buttons. Some behaviours are so normal to you that you don’t even recognise them as patterns. And that’s why other people play a role in your growth too. People around you will notice things you overlook simply because they’re observing from the outside.

This is where constructive criticism becomes powerful. Not the kind meant to embarrass you or tear you down. The kind that comes from people who want you to be better. The kind that says, “I noticed this about you… Maybe you should pay attention to it.” And the truth is, many of the things you think you’re hiding are already visible to others. Growth is being humble enough to listen.

But listening doesn’t mean accepting everything. That’s where discernment comes in, the quiet wisdom to filter what you hear. Discernment protects you from absorbing opinions that were never meant for your journey. It reminds you that not every criticism is true, not every comment is insightful, and not every voice is qualified to shape your future. Without discernment, you either reject all correction or accept every judgment. With discernment, you take what helps you evolve and release what weighs you down.

And in the middle of all this, you must give yourself grace. Growth will expose some parts of you that you’re not proud of. You will make mistakes. You will slip back into old habits sometimes. You will disappoint yourself here and there. But none of that means you are failing. It means you’re human. And giving yourself grace is not an excuse; it’s a necessity. Grace reminds you that you are allowed to learn. Allowed to adjust. Allowed to start again.

Because growth does not happen overnight. It happens slowly, quietly, in moments that don’t look like progress. It happens on days you try again after a setback. It happens when you choose honesty over ego. It happens when you catch yourself repeating an old pattern and decide not to shame yourself for it. Growth is not a straight line; it is a gentle unfolding.

The truth is, growth never ends. You will always discover new layers of yourself, strengths that surprise you, weaknesses that humble you, and habits you didn’t realise were shaping your life. You don’t become your best self in one big moment. You become them in small choices, everyday awareness, and the courage to keep showing up.

So if you’re in a season of seeing yourself clearly, even the parts you wish were different, you’re not failing. You’re growing. If people who care about you are correcting you, don’t shut down. Listen. Filter. Learn. If life is making you pay attention to things you once ignored, embrace it. That’s development happening in real time.

Growth is not loud. Growth is not perfect. Growth is not instant.
But every day you become a little more aware, a little more honest, a little more intentional, you become someone stronger, softer, wiser, and more grounded.

And that is the real meaning of growth.

It gets better, right?
Wishing you well…
